Found this online and though it was very interesting.  As long as he doesn't kill her, it's ok to slap her.

The only kind of slap I want is on my behind. Thank you very much!

    Wow! I agree that if more men spanked their wives there would probably be less divorce but I draw the line at face slapping. BTW...have a funny feeling there was a bit of smart mouthing that went along with her refusal to go to the dance. ;)
