Count your blessings!

The party is tomorrow....curse me and my tallness and big feet!

But brisk *clap, clap* enough depressing crap!

I was reminded today of blessings and I thought I'd share my story.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to a used book store in my area. I LOVE reading, but I really don't like book stores all that much. It's too overwhelming and I don't know where to begin. PLUS, I HATE spending money on new books. I LOVE the smell of new books, but you know something? The story is the same whether you read it in a new book or used book.

Anyway, I was in the store and this very cute old lady (when I say old, I mean she's probably in her 70's) was running the store. We were discussing the book I was looking for and she was asking how I found her store. Then we got in a a discussion about how nobody reads the newspaper anymore and how sad it was.

While I was purchasing my lovely, lovely books, she pointed to a dish on the counter that had decorative colored stones in it. (the shiny colored glass stones that you use in vases and such) She told me to take one, they were free. I first I didn't understand but she explained to me that they were blessing stones. You are suppose to keep it in your pocket and whenever you reach in the pocket and touch it, it will remind you of how blessed you are. How sweet was THAT?

I had forgotten about the blessing stone until sorting the laundry today and the blessing stone fell out of my pocket. I remembered the story and I sat on the floor of the bathroom and remembered my blessings. Trust me, I have plenty.

It's easy to forget how blessed we are when things don't seem to be going our way. I have relatively good health, I have wonderful children and I have a really sexy husband!

After thinking of all my blessing, I came online to check email and such. When I turned on the computer, I saw my desktop picture. I had forgotten that I had changed it the other day, so I was surprised, at first, to see a new picture.

This picture was taken on Saturday. My son and I went to a walking path that we hadn't been to before. It was just the two of us and we had the binoculars and water and we set off to see what we could see. We He climbed rocks and we looked at birds and it was just a really nice day.

We also saw THIS:

No joke, I took that picture!

If that's not the universe/God reminding me that I am blessed and loved....well I don't know what is!

So, go get yourself a pocket blessing. Find a rock or a stone or a penny or a lucky rabbits foot. Put it in your pocket and then....every time you stick your hand in your pocket, remember how blessed you are!

I know I do!

*shoe update*
Believe it or not, the wildchild just came in with a magical pair of shoes! They have a very short heel and are silver and sparkly. They are the perfect shoes. AND, they match my dress! I just tried them on and lo and behold they fit! Where did the magical shoes come from, you ask? Apparently last night she saw them on her friends floor in her bedroom, asked if I could borrow them and WA-LA! Magical shoes!

See, I really am blessed!

  1. I love to read and enjoy both new and used bookstores. That's a lovely idea of the blessing stone. I heard that at a memorial service once for WWI veteran. We all have stones from it. Great news on the shoes/ Bet u look dazzling.

  2. Great news on the shoes! I forgot to mention to you that I am 5'9 and wear size 10. A huge nightmare at times!

That was nice about the used bookstore. Also nice about the stone.

We're all blessed, Grace. We just forget sometimes. I guess in the grand scheme of life, its good to remember. This was the second reminder I have had tonight. My SIL sent a beautiful piece about our journey in life.

Its strange but I feel much calmer now. My husband's plane was canceled to come home tonight due to our ice storm but you know what, its okay.

Have a fabulous time at the party and don't forget - details.....we want to party vicariously!

  4. Beautiful picture! Is that a heart in the middle? And the light...gorgeous! And I think blessing stones are awesome; my friend I lived with during my divorce used to use one too. And CONGRATS on the shoes! :) :)

    Have fun tonight!

  5. Grace, a very nice post, I love secondhand bookshops, we have a great one where I live.
Thanks for the reminder of our blessings, something we tend to forget.
Clouds can do some wonderful things, it's great to have a camera when that happens.
    Love and warm hugs,
    Paul.

  6. Hi Grace:
Seems like your blessing stone worked in many many ways. You got gorgeous shoes, and sparkly ones. No joke I was just telling one of my friends today, who stopped by wearing (my favorite color)Pink sparkly shoes, how much I love sparkly shoes! My sister has the exact opposite problem, she has worn a size 4 1/2 shoe since high school, and has a bear of time finding adult style shoes in her size! That's a beautiful picture. Have a great time at the party.
    Take care,
    Andrades

  7. Thank you Amber...for seeing the heart! My boy and I saw the heart and immediately wanted a picture.

You know, if we hadn't looked up, we would have missed the whole thing.

Jean, the blessing stone is such a nice treat. I had never heard it before and it fell out of my pocket just when I needed it the most!

Debbie! I too, wear a size 10...not fun finding shoes. Especially cute shoes with low heels. Hope your hubby made it home safe and sound!

Impish, I was pleased with the way the picture turned out. After my daughter came in with the shoes, I did feel just like Cinderella!

Paul, thank you for your nice comment, lovely little bookstores that don't overwhelm me or my pocket book is my favorite kind.

Andrades, I guess having too small of feet can be just as much of a curse as big feet. Although, the way kids are dressing now a days, kid things are starting to look more and more like adult things.

Well, off to get ready for the ball!

    Have a great weekend everyone!

    HUGS!
