Thank you all for the birthday wishes. I'd show you a pic of her today, but then I'd have to kill you, and I have neither the time nor the inclination to do that. Did you know that for the past 6 years it has rained on November 8th? Last year was just a drizzle and this year was just a sprinkle, but it's it ironic that it rains in some fashion every single year!!! It didn't rain until Saturday night and when it started the wildchild was out with friends, but we called her when the rain started and she was just as thrilled as we were. It's kind of tradition for us now and we sometimes take bets on whether it will rain or not. (Just thought you'd like an insight into our weird world...LOL)
The birthday was great! The wildchild is getting a laptop from us. She tried to go out on her birthday to buy lotto tickets and the guy at the store said she had to wait until mid-night. Never hear of that before, but she went to another store and they had no problem letting her buy the tickets.
I have to admit, I'm disappointed. The MIL didn't contact the wildchild for her birthday. I know things are bad between us and we haven't actually spoken to her since graduation but still, this is her grandchild and the children have nothing to do with the problems of the adults. Not to mention, the wildchild and the MIL were VERY close while the wildchild was growing up. The wildchild used to LOVE spending time with her grandma and it's hurtful that she couldn't even contact her. The MIL has the wildchild's cell phone number, she also knows our address. Couldn't she have called or sent a birthday card or ANYTHING? As a matter of fact, we saw the FIL at church and he wished the wildchild a happy birthday. Couldn't the MIL send a card with the FIL? I think it's crappy and it just makes me realize that this woman is sick and we are right to say away from her.
~rant over~
D ended up in the hospital this weekend. As a matter of fact, she's still there. Apparently her heart rate went down to 40. As far as any one can tell, the new meds must have done it. Problem is, the meds are so new, they don't know for sure. D doesn't want to quit taking the meds, because they are the best chance of recovery, but now this is thrown in, so who knows what will happen next! It's so scary. She'll find out today what the doctors think she should do next. I just don't understand....you take meds to make you better, but they continue to make you worse....it's just not fair.
Well, that's all I've got for today. What did YOU do this weekend???
Don't get me started on meds; yes, you're right, sometimes they are not fair.
ReplyDeleteAll my best to D...{{{hugs}}}
Hope she feels better soon and the new meds do their job.
As for MIL...well, you know, it's like my ex. I could cry when I think about all he's missing out on with our grown kids. He never calls or sees Lucy and she's five months along now. Met Jake twice; once a year before they married and on their wedding day. Never talks to Ray and Cory. These are his children and they are so beautiful and wonderful.
He's missing out; his own kids. Why? And I never interfered in any way, and actually supported him when the kids were hurt and confused by his distance. I suggested they keep up the relationship, they'd have to call and do invites. And they did for a long time but finally now after 10 years...they've kinda stopped and I don't blame them.
I mean, if he wants to hate me, fine, hate me, I don't care but don't take it out on the kids. It was like I left him and his love for them just switched off. Sad.
It's sad. He lives in the area; there just isn't an excuse. Sorry for the rant, but I sooo relate. MIL is missing out.
Grace, so glade Thai the Wild Child had a good birthday
ReplyDeleteI hope that D starts improving soon, I've jousted with cancer, not nice.
People are sad, if I'd been fortunate enough to have children, oh well.
Love and warm hugs,
Paul.
I am glad the Wildchild had a good day - rain and all. Did she show any desire to contact MIL in the past 6 months? Maybe its best to just have good memories of the grandmother she used to have sincee that person no longer seems to exist.
ReplyDeleteI hope D can consintrate all her energy into getting well. She is still on my prayer list and I hope they can get all these medicines to work together.
What did I do this weekend - not too much and I love it!
Hugs,
PK
Drugs are so tricky, yet it sometimes seems like they are all you have. My daughter is having a bout with cancer too, and does not communicate much about it.
ReplyDeleteI am one of those who believe that EVERY illness has its roots in the psyche. Illness is not random. Drugs may attack the symptom, but they do nothing for the root cause. The medical establishment is beginning to understand this, but there is a long way to go.
I'm not saying that drugs and surgery are no good - my son is a surgeon and his work is vital; but medical practice must and will change. Have a look at www.emofree.com for clues on this.
Such a pity about MIL, I had a tricky MIL too, quick to take offence and tenacious to hold a grudge. I wonder what can have gone wrong with yours? It's hard to know what line to take - keep communicating or stay away. Communicating is hard but might be beneficial; staying aloof is easy but won't change anything.
grace, sorry to be so dense, but why do have to kill me in order to show me a pic of your daughter?
ReplyDeleteMalcolm, thanks for the website, I will check it out. I agree with you about illness and such. As to the MIL, I wish I knew what the right thing is to do. Do we try and make peace, or do we keep our distance so as not to cause more drama?
ReplyDeleteAs for the pic thing...well, I really would not want my daughter to find my site, so I would not want to post a pic. The baby pic is relatively safe, but I will pull it soon anyway. I wouldn't want a friend of hers to see a pic of her now and realize this was her mothers site....
Besides....do you really think I would kill you? ;)
HUGS!
