7 years ago on Jan 15th, around noon, I got the call that would change my life. It would change the way I live. It would change the way I think. It would change the way I look. It would change my mental and physical being. It was the day I found out I had breast cancer.
Amazingly enough, I didn't even think about it yesterday. I may not have thought about it today if it weren't for facebook memories that like to pop up when you least want them.
I'm one of the lucky ones. I survived. My sister in law died 6 months after I found out. She didn't survive. She did everything she could to survive but it didn't happen. It's not because she didn't fight, it's not because she lost the battle. It's because her body was different than ours. It didn't respond to the treatment. It wasn't her fault. She did everything in her power.
It's just crazy. I don't understand it. One survives, one doesn't. It's just not fair. But it's life and we have to deal with it the best way we can. We cannot live in fear. We must live our best life because the ones that aren't here would have wanted it that way. They would love to still be here living. So we must live on, for them.
So today I'm going to live. I'm going to enjoy my day. I'm going to appreciate THIS day for tomorrow is not promised.
I suggest you do the same!
Survivingly,
grace
I can't believe it's been seven years. We've known each other a while haven't we? I'm still sorry about your SIL, I know how much you cared for her and I'm very, very happy you survived.
ReplyDeleteHow's your back doing?
I'm very happy you survived, Grace and very sorry your SIL didn't. Appreciating each day and every person is the best way to live.

Hi Grace, I know how you feel, I am so happy that you survived. Me too as it happens. My kidney cancer was in 2004 and I am still here too. :)
ReplyDeleteI count myself as very lucky, so many don't live to tell the tale and here we both are. Sad for your sil, more difficult when you are going through it too.
love Jan, xx
