Lets talk dominance again

So, the other day, I asked for definitions of dominance.  I was trying to explain to Bossman why certain characters in books turn me on so much with their dominance.

Thank you for the great comments back on that.  Bossman and I read them together.  After reading them, Bossman said that it sounded like a lot to live up to.

Is it a lot to live up to?  Do we expect too much out of our men?

Bossman has most of the qualities described in each of the comments, so I was a little perplexed that he would think that was a lot to expect out someone.  Maybe he doesn’t see himself as a dominate force.

For me, one of the most important factors is the protectiveness.  I want to know that my man would take a bullet for me, slay dragons for me, rescue me from kidnappers or run through a fire to pull me out.  I’m happy to report that I know that Bossman would do that for me.  He has done that for me.  Ok, he hasn’t exactly had to save me from any of those things, but I know he would if he had to.

I’ve said before that I was born submissive.  I believe that with all my heart.  I had submissive thoughts very early in life.  So I’m guessing that men are born certain ways also.  I’m sure you’ve witnessed the wimpy man.  The man that is totally whipped by his wife.  How did the man become that way?  Was he raised to be wimpy?  Was he born without the dominate gene or is it just that he’s missing his balls?

Maybe it’s just too old-fashioned to dominate.  Society has already said that submissive women are weak and frail.  Women are suppose to be able to bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan.  Women aren’t suppose to want the man to be in charge.  We aren’t suppose to give up power to the males for that is demeaning to womankind!    So because the women have stated it as thus, the men have been beaten down.  They are afraid to wear the pants because then they are considered brutes, bullies and Oh my, domineering!   Society has beaten the MEN into submission!

But I’m betting that most women just go along with that BS because they don’t want to look stupid.  There are very few of us in the world willing to admit that we WANT our men to be dominate.  We want to submit.  We want the men to take care of us.

Why can’t we submit to our men but still own the world?  Why must we protect ourselves when we have men to do that for us?  It’s pretty obvious that men are stronger, so why must we try and prove that we are better than them?  There is a reason why when there is a crisis it’s always women and children first.  It’s not because we are better than them.   It’s because they are stronger than we are.  But stronger doesn’t mean better.  It’s just means different.   Males and females bring their own unique abilities to the table.  We are different and so why can’t we just accept that we are different, instead of trying time and time again to prove that we aren’t.

I don’t find submissiveness to be a weakness.  I think you have to be strong to submit.  You have to trust the person you submit to.  You have to let go.  Letting go is so hard.  It’s hard to give up control.

I guess I answered my own question.  Are we expecting to much out of our men?  I’m answering NO!  I think we all have a purpose in life.  The purpose of man is to protect and care for his woman.  The purpose of woman is to protect and care for her man.

Sure, I love a good dominate man in books, but I will always prefer my real-life hero……Bossman.

  1. I agree with everything you say. And all you have to do to see that women still look to men to be strong and protective is look at the extreme popularity of books like the Twilight series or what kind of male heroes in movies and TV shows makes women go ga-ga and it's *never* the wimpy guy the women go nuts over. Never. It's always the strong, protective guy. He can be quiet and sensitive but he has to be strong, it's in every successful romantic story between men and women.

Yes, they usually make the women characters strong too, today; they show her running around shooting and doing a lot of heroic stuff that MOST (not all, but most) women would/could never do but despite how strong their character is written, they *still* fall for the strong protective guy.

If it was written the other way around, it wouldn't be as successful.

Bossman said it was a lot to live up to; I agree. That's why I don't ever want to be Dom. It's a lot of work.

  5. Great post! I want my husband to be protective, but also let me spread my wings and try new things while being prepared to pick me up and comfort me if I fall. He knows how much strength it takes to submit to him and he can match that strength when I need discipline. One of the most dominant things is his look of amusement when I try to get by with something. It shows his confidence in his decision, his authority, his ability to follow through, his dominance.
